I wonder were KEA and RTL recorded with early jcm800`s or non master JMP`s, but what ever was used, those early tones just kicked butt to hell and back.ĭoes anybody else think the Metallica tones that were all about Marshall amps completely dust the latter Mesa type ones, have your say in the poll. Metallica’s tone is characterized by high gain and bass, but mid-high trebles to provide definition and low mids to provide a low- distortion sound. I read that their last album was a step back in time, but id frankly lost interest a long time ago, so I cannot comment on how good or bad id find it to be. The marshall heavyweight punch displayed on the 1st two albums became watered down with Mesa mark 2C mehness and add Bob Rock to the equation for the black album and its just a lost cause.

The tones on puppets in my opinion are poor and on justice for all, they are just a shadow of what used to be. Just listen to the rawness and brutalness of the sound of the first two albums KEA and RTL, that was Marshall savagery at its finest in my opinion, Metal Militia just underlines that point.and then it all went crap imo Nobody dare deny that Cliff`s death was a hammerblow to metallica, he was the backbone of that group, and even his bass solo (Anaesthesia) I just love, whereas 99.9% of solo spots send me to sleep. I am still blown away by everything on Kill em All and Ride the Lightning whilst I can can endure 30% of Master of Puppets and everything since just bores me to tears and then some.

I used to adore Metallica, but now, everything after a few tracks on the Master of Puppets album sounds meh to me.
